Kurri Kurri

Introduction of Kurri Kurri

Kurri's Hunter area, located in the interior of New South Wales, is about 150km south from Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, and about 30km east from (Newcastle), the second-largest city in New South Wales. It is the gateway from Sydney to (Hunter Valley), the largest wine-producing region in New South Wales, with a permanent population of about 5,000.

Kurri's name, derived from the native Awabakal language, means "fast." Settled by the discovery of coal mines in the late 19th century, the town was once Australia's largest coal mine producer. It was officially founded in 1902, and wine and tourism are now the main industries of Kurri as the mining industry looms.
